Question:

Is it permissible for a Muslim man to dye his hair or beard other than black? Write the rule for applying black dye.

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الجواب وبالله التوفيق والنجاح

In principle, it is sunnah for a muslim male to apply die to his hair or beard except black colour. Ruling of applying black dye is mentioned below.

1) If the intention of applying black dye is to show others that he is of less age, then it is haram.

2) If it is for make up, then opinion of the majority scholars are, it is Karahathe Thahreemi (closer to haram). So, one should abstain from using black dye.
